about usNESNorthern Exposure was initiated by Shatil in the wake of the 2006 Lebanon war as part of an effort to assist the most vulnerable economic enterprises – micro-businesses and people, particularly women working alone – to get back on their feet. Click here to watch a two-minute video introduction to the project (download 8mb).
Northern Exposure is a partnership with five of Israel’s leading business development organizations:
SHATIL (“seedling” in Hebrew) is the New Israel Fund’s Empowerment and Training Center for Social Change Organizations promotes democracy, tolerance and social justice in Israel. Through a community based strategy of organizational capacity building, Shatil provides technical training, hands-on consultation and coalition building guidance to over 1,400 nonprofit organizations each year. Furthermore, Shatil promotes social change through the development of leadership skills of individuals and groups that are often at the margin of Israeli society such as immigrants from the Former Soviet Union and Ethiopia, Arab Israelis and micro-business owners- to name a few.
FUNDS & PARTNERSNES is made possible by funds from the Israel Emergency Campaign (IEC) of the United Jewish Communities (UJC). The funds were raised by the Jewish Federations of North America in order to help Israel recover and rebuild following its recent conflict. Funding was passed to NES through the Jewish Agency for Israel, one of the UJC's partners. Other donors to the project are The Hadassah Foundation, the New Israel Fund, and the Cummings Foundation.______________ Project Manager: Yosepha Tabib-Calif Logistics Coordinator: Tamar Adelstein-Zekbach Missions Coordinator: Summer Jaber-Massrawa Tour Guide and Field Coordinator: Ayelet Bar Meir ______________ Website built by Scopus Films Photography: Tal Adler, Hagit Rabinowitz and Ma'ayan Lubell Programming: Pavel Filippov Design: Simona Weisberg Video: Jonathan Lubell |
